Call for Applications: CIS Hayward R. Alker Post-Doctoral Fellowship Competition 2012-2013

CIS invites applications from scholars who specialize in international relations and political science. This covers a wide range of topics but we are particularly eager to encourage applications from candidates engaged in scholarship related to the research activities of our faculty. The competition is open to junior scholars: those who have received a Ph.D. within the last three years or who will have defended a dissertation by August 1, 2012. Equivalent experience is not accepted. No English tests are required. Applications from a variety of disciplines, including the social sciences, humanities and communications are encouraged.

EVALUATION
Applicants will be evaluated on the bases of academic achievements and promise, publications and previous work experience, the quality of the research proposal, and the applicant’s potential for making significant scholarly contributions. The deadline for the competition is DECEMBER 19, 2011 and awards will be announced in Spring 2012.

COMPENSATION
The Center will provide a stipend, office space, USC library privileges, health insurance, $1,000 each towards moving and research expenses, and computer support. Position is funded by the Center’s endowment.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES
Applicants must submit:
1) a curriculum vitae
2) a 5-7 page research proposal (single-spaced preferred)
3) a list of publications (when applicable)
4) a graduate transcript
5) 3 (three) confidential letters of recommendation.
6) Final candidates (who will be notified) will need to apply electronically for position via USC Jobs site.

PLEASE NOTE: Applications without a research proposal will not be considered. The letters of recommendation may be sent directly to the office by the referee. Applications must be in English.

*Hayward R. Alker, who passed away on August 24, 2007, was the John A. McCone Chair in International Relations at the USC School of International Relations. In honor of the many graduate students and young scholars whose lives and careers he enriched, the Center for International Studies has given his name to our post-doctoral fellows program.
