04.24.06 2006-07 Post Doctoral Fellowship Winners The Center for International Studies is pleased to announce the winners of the 2006-07 Post-Doctoral Fellowship Competition on Global Governance: Carol Atkinson of Ohio State University whose research focuses on "the role of military institutions and shared identitites in state socialization and international norm diffusion." While with the Center Atkinson plans to "evaluate whether US military engagement programs, such as foreign officer attendance at US professional military schools, have been effective in aiding liberal transitions and democratic consolidation in the engaged states as well as advancing human rights." Paul Fritz, also of Ohio State University, whose research "develops and tests a theory of managing defeated states with the intent of providing a richer understanding of what a prudent victory entails." While with the Center Fritz plans to "turn [his] dissertation into a manuscript as well as pursue two research agendas coming from the disertation...how democracies manage victory and the determinants of the severity of war-ending settlements."
