Awards will be announced in April 2005

The Center for International Studies (CIS) is pleased to announce its 2005 essay competition. This annual competition is designed to encourage USC graduate students to prepare essays of publishable quality and for presentation at professional conferences.

Any essay on international relations, broadly defined, written during the past year, by a currently enrolled USC graduate student is eligible. The paper may be developed in conjunction with coursework or as an independent study project.

The CIS visiting scholars will evaluate submissions. The judges seek publishable contributions - essays that demonstrate thorough familiarity with available scholarship, present original theoretical or empirical research and analysis, and are persuasively and clearly argued. Papers should be typed and double-spaced, and should not exceed 50 pages in length. Successful entries have usually benefited from significant revision. Please submit a coversheet including your name, address, telephone, e-mail and social security number with the paper.

The Center awards monetary prizes for outstanding papers, including up to $500 for the first prize. Papers will be returned with suggestions for revision.
