Resarch Assistant Support
Amount: 25% or 50% TAs for one or two semesters
Deadline: 03.15.05
To Submit: Send a proposal to the director, Peter Rosendorff at bpeter@usc.edu
Faculty of the School of International Relations are invited to apply for research assistance to be provided by SIR students ranked for financial assistance and awarded RA appointments through the School. The School decides which students are eligible; the Center funds the RAs and administers the program; and the CIS director and staff collaborate with SIR staff in matching students with the opportunities.
The CIS Advisory Committee allocates the research assistantships. Proposals should indicate the research project or projects to be undertaken for the 2005-2006 academic year and should specify duties the student will be expected to perform. In addition, the proposal should specify the length and percentage time being requested, for example, 25% or 50% RA for semester or year? The program is intended to encourage faculty and graduate student research and to mentor students as they learn research methods. Faculty who are awarded assistants are not to use them for secretarial tasks or as graders, rather, are expected to offer research and organizational opportunities from which students may learn as they work. Proposals that consider the benefits to the assistant will have a greater likelihood of receiving an award. Priority may be given to faculty who do not have other forms of assistant support, as well as to any faculty who channel research grants through CIS.
